Boat appliance repair — Shelter Bay Marina

Shelter Bay Marina on the Atlantic near the Canal entrance is a hub for transit layovers, refits and cruising season. Caribbean salt air and lock-timing waits leave 12V/24V refrigeration and ice makers running for days on a hot dock. We schedule around transit: diagnosis may happen before lock entry; install after return or in the berth window the captain confirms. We import OEM from Miami with clear lead times so the galley is not left without refrigeration mid-transit.

Brands: Isotherm, Vitrifrigo, Dometic, Sub-Zero on yachts, Scotsman and U-Line ice makers, plus premium galley appliances.

Marine equipment & tropical failures

Isotherm
12V–24V fridge / freezer

Won’t cool after anchoring; corroded condenser fan or thermostat drift

Deck heat + salt air in the aft machinery space
Vitrifrigo
Drawer / undercounter fridge

Dried gasket, cabin condensation, short compressor cycles

Marina humidity and frequent door openings in the tropics
Dometic
Marine refrigeration / cabin AC

Weak cooling from a salt-fouled coil or oxidized electrical terminals

Constant salt breeze on long-term berths
Scotsman
Galley / flybridge ice maker

Low output, cloudy ice, or a seized water pump

Warm tank water + dust/salt on the condenser
U-Line
Bar ice maker / undercounter

Failed magnetic seal, clogged defrost drain, thin ice harvest

Damp onboard closet with no rear ventilation
Sub-Zero
Column / drawer on a motor yacht

Panel gasket, evaporator fan, or control board after bilge-side moisture

Yacht A/C plus salt air in service alleyways
Isotherm / Vitrifrigo
Holdover / eutectic plate

Eutectic plate won’t “charge” at the dock; weak sensor or compressor

Long passages with limited engine/generator runtime
Dometic
Galley cooktop / range

Damp igniters, corroded valves, seized knobs

Salt spray through open ports in rainy season
Scotsman / U-Line
Modular ice machine

Scaled water filter/valve; harvest fault codes

Hard marina water + hot machine-room temperatures

Shelter Bay and Canal timing

Expect world-cruising sailboats, trawlers and motor yachts waiting on advisories. Canal schedules rule — send ETA/ETD and Shelter Bay slip early. If the boat is headed into a refit yard, we coordinate yard access so we do not collide with welding or paint work.

Common post-Caribbean failures: salt-clogged condensers, thermostats drifting after extreme deck heat, and electronics with corroded terminals. We do not jump to “needs gas” without measuring — airflow and electrical first, refrigerant only if indicated.

Dock access

  1. 01Share Shelter Bay slip, vessel name/flag and the window before or after locks.
  2. 02We confirm marina security entry and any vehicle limits on the dock.
  3. 03Priority diagnosis; Miami order timed to your next Colón stop or Pacific return.
